Exclude first treat second – set up your farm zones

Zoning your farm into separate areas (zones) can be one of the easiest and most effective ways to manage the movement of vehicles, people and machinery on and off farms. It can also be applied to service delivery businesses (i.e. those businesses servicing the banana industry) that may travel between farms on a regular basis. Zoning assists with limiting the potential spread of soil-borne pests and diseases.

You can check out some examples of how some growers have implemented zoning on their farms at Zoning – grower practices – Better Bananas.  And because there is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to biosecurity, including zoning, help is available.

If you are a grower and would like to chat to someone about zoning, call the National Banana Development & Extension Program team on 07 4220 4152 or email betterbananas@daf.qld.gov.au.

If you are a service provider to the banana industry and would like to discuss biosecurity or zoning for your business, call the Panama TR4 Program on 4091 8140 or email pananatr4@daf.qld.gov.au.

Get in the zone: Biosecurity is a shared responsibility.
